Biography & Skills

I am qualified as a Chartered Engineer and a Member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.

My career began with 5 years in the Automotive sector, working on heavy goods vehicle air braking systems. During this time I undertook testing, design, project management, customer liaison and manufacturing transfer. I learnt to use ProE 3D CAD and FEA.

I then moved into the Medical sector, spending 17 years working on orthopaedic implants and instruments, primarily hip and knee replacements. During this period I further developed my CAD and FEA skills, this time using NX and ANSYS. I was trained in and employed a wide range of design tools and took part in global projects. I have attended surgery and labs, led meetings with surgeons and other users and generated a number of patentable designs.

My next 3 years took me, still in the medical field, but into soft tissue repair – mainly ligament and tendon replacements. My role was initially engineering support for the production equipment & textile manufacturing and then progressed into a production management role. In this capacity I have been involved in a lot of troubleshooting, design for manufacture and cross department projects.

Following this stage, I have now established JAB Engineering Design Ltd to work as an independent engineering design consultant capitalising on my 25 years experience. Please get in touch to find out how my services could help you.
